Railway Budget 2012 | New Trains List | New Train Prices

List of new trains | Passenger Fare's hiked in Railway budget

Highlights on 2012 Railway budget by Union Minister of Railways Dinesh Trivedi

This Railway budget is special because the minister has taken a bold step in increasing the passengers fare for the first time in almost 9 years. The hike in passenger ticket fare is nominal and across the board for all train classes. I am sure this hike will be welcomed by the common man for better rail facilities and security that is expected by millions of passengers travelling by Indian Railways every day.

It is also expected that the opposition political parties will oppose this fare hike. But for railways to make more money to implement so called facilities and security measures this hike is needed.

The platform ticket fare is also increased from Rs.3 to Rs.5.

Here is the summary of increase in passenger ticket fare of Indian Railways in the 2012 budget.
  • 2 paise per km for suburban and ordinary second class.
  • 3 paise per km for mail/express second class.
  • 5 paise per km for sleeper class.
  • 10 paise per km for AC Chair Car, AC 3 tier and First Class.
  • 15 paise per km for AC 2 tier.
  • 30 paise per km for AC I tier.

2012 Assembly elections - final party positions

Here are the final party positions in the 5 states of UP, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Goa and Punjab. The election results were declared yesterday. Overall if we try to analyze the outcome of this polls then we can surely say that both the main national parties Congress and BJP didn't manage to do well.

UP was completely swept by SP at the cost of BSP
Uttarakhand - Congress manages to do better than BJP
Manipur - It is all Congress
Punjab - Akali perform better and create history. BJP losses, Congress performs marginally better - even though it loses power to BJP+ allies.
Goa - The only state where BJP can look at the outcome and be satisfied.
